The
NABFEME Shero Hall of Fame
Packing
estrogen, and most often a slick designer pen and briefcase,
Sheroes come in every imaginable shape size and color …and
they manifest their Sheroism in infinite ways. The strength
and fortitude of our Shero foremothers in the entertainment
industry paved the way for today’s executive divas and goddesses.
The accomplishments of these women are quite stunning in light
of the fact that there was, for whatever reason, an un-talked
about system that always put men on top. Battling exclusion
and seclusion, these incredible women risked it all to create
the opportunities for the careers we enjoy and hold today.
These are the industry “Wonder Women,” Sheroes who didn’t
take no for an answer and went to straight to the head of
the class!
The
NABFEME SHERO is a woman of color
whose achievements have opened doors, set new standards for
the entertainment industry... and built the foundation for
the careers women in music and entertainment enjoy today.
The NABFEME SHERO is our "Wonder
Woman!" To be named a NABFEME SHERO
is the highest honor given by the National Association of
Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment.
At the
2002 NABFEME International Women’s Leadership Summit in Toronto,
Canada the National Association of Black Female Executives
in Music & Entertainment held its Second Annual NABFEME
SHERO HALL OF FAME Induction ceremonies... honoring
the careers and lifetime achievements of Sister-2-Sister publisher,
Jamie Foster-Brown, BET President, Debra Lee
and longtime recorded music industry giant, Jean
Riggins. The event also presented a special
showcase and honor to AIDS activist, Maria Davis.
Esteemed poet, Nikki Giovanni, delivered
the keynote address for this stellar affair. As some of the
most respected executives in the industry, the pioneering
careers and life stories of these women serve as road maps
for anyone interested in a career in music and entertainment.
